My Approach

I am a HCPC registered clinical psychologist trained in delivering a range of therapies to help people experiencing psychological and relationship difficulties.

I believe the key to good therapy is collaborative working. In an initial consultation session we will discuss the issues you want help with and I will make suggestions about which approach might be most useful. Some people prefer to explore their issues openly, using what comes to mind during the session; where others prefer a structured model, where they receive more direct guidance. We can work together to find the style that suits you best so that you get the most from therapy.

Consultation

I offer a free 30 minute consultation so that you can tell me what you need and I can explain my approach, and you can decide if it feels like a good fit.

The most important part of any therapy is finding a therapist you can trust and work with comfortably.

Individual Therapy

I can offer help with a wide range of problems, including trauma and complex trauma, attachment and relationship issues, anxiety, bereavement, voice hearing, changes in health and life stages, and other difficulties.

I am trained in multiple therapeutic models, and have a background in psychodynamic and relational approaches, schema therapy, compassion focused therapy, trauma models and other approaches.

Following an initial consultation, we will work together to make sense of your problems. We can then agree an approach which fits best for you.

Couples Therapy

Many difficulties in relationships result from repeated patterns that we have picked up earlier in life and continue to replay in the present. Frequently, the needs and desires of one partner clash with those of the other.

Becoming aware of these patterns is important, but equally important is learning how to communicate your needs to each other in a way that feels safe.

Therapy can provide a space where people can learn to understand and communicate their needs in a non-judgemental and neutral space.

Professional Supervision

I am able to offer private supervision for psychological and other mental health professionals. My typical approach provides a balance between reflective and reflexive space, professional development, and where necessary discussions of ethical practice including cross-cultural ways of working.

I have worked in NHS psychological services for 20 years and completed my doctorate in clinical psychology in 2017. I have extensive experience of supervising newly qualified and highly specialist clinical psychologists, as well as professionals at many other levels.

My doctoral training was largely focused on systemic and psychodynamic practice, although I have completed additional training in CFT, Narrative Therapy, MBT, Schema Therapy and CBT.

I have experience in a wide range of adult mental health services, as well as health psychology, and forensic settings. In my NHS work I specialise in trauma and complex-trauma (including dissociative states), psychosis, and family and relational difficulties.
